GameBoy, The Beginning Of Nintendo's Handheld Dominance Remembered

Posted by Streex on July 23, 2014 at 5:40 PM

It seems like it was just yesterday when my mom brought home a GameBoy each for my brother and I. After piddling away with Tiger Electronic games, to finally play a handheld game where objects actually moved across the screen, I was mindblown. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of dedicated handheld dominance. From the Game Gear to the PSVita, no handheld has been able to beat Nintendo.

The gamers at Nintendojo put together a nice read detailing the early history of how the GameBoy won, including the early Game & Watch efforts that came before GameBoy, to the decision making process to bundle it with Tetris over Super Mario Land, and how the philosophy implemented with GameBoy was emulated years later with the Wii, to return Nintendo to the top of the console charts. I found it to be a well written article, and I highly encourage you to click the link below to (re)discover how the GameBoy won.
